Yeah, except the average family’s debt doesn’t keep the global economy moving.
Nor does the average family have the choice to increase their revenue simply by raising taxes (or closing loopholes that allow for taxes to not be paid).

Or printing more money. Or spending money on public works projects to reduce unemployment and give people spending money which gets recouped in sales tax? Not saying those are the right solutions, but they are tools that can be employed and should be considered which the above analogy completely disregards.
Look, I’m not against a balanced budget in theory. And wow, wouldn’t it be great if we had a surplus. But this is the kind of conservative bullshit that drives me crazy - spinning a story one way with a willful disregard for reality and the unique options the US government has.
